When trouble strikes, your CSEA family is always here to lend a hand. With fires raging up and down the state, Association President Michael Bilbrey has made emergency assistance funds available to members who have been affected by the blazes.

CSEA's 89th Annual Conference celebrates the 'Power of Us'
CSEA's 89th Annual Conference, held July 27-31, 2015 in Las Vegas, brought together CSEA members from all over California to share ideas, debate and vote on resolutions, adopt a budget, elect state officers and present awards for outstanding service and achievement. Celebrating the theme "The Power of Us," members left the conference energized to confront the challenges facing classified employees and working families in 2016.

Delegates emerge ready for the challenges ahead
The 89th Annual Conference came to a close today, with members ready to tackle the challenges ahead. Delegates queued up early this morning to cast their votes for Association officers. Michael Bilbrey was re-elected as Association President for another two-year term, Ben Valdepeña was re-elected as First Vice President, Delores Rodriguez-Burke won re-election as Second Vice President, and Kerry Woods was re-elected as Association Secretary.

Association President Bilbrey trumpets successes, outlines challenges in State of the Union
In his second State of the Union address as Association President, Michael Bilbrey reflected on major accomplishments of the past year and told delegates he is confident that CSEA members are ready, willing and able to face the challenges ahead.

2015 Members of the Year
Each year, CSEA honors members who go above and beyond in service to students and CSEA with the Member of the Year award. This years winners are: Lee Anne Gaxiola from Gilroy Chapter 69, Lauro Jimenez from College of the Desert Chapter 407, Debbi Partridge from Yosemite Community College District Chapter 420, Paul Rasso from Colton Chapter 244 and Margaret Warder from Laguna Beach Chapter 131.

Governor signs budget
California's new 2015-16 budget increases education funding over last year's level by $7.6 billion. When combined with increases of $6.1 billion in 2013-14 and 2014-15 as well as other one-time savings and adjustments in those years, there has been an increased investment in K-14 education of more than $14 billion.
Pensions
Proposed ballot measure takes aim at retirement security
Anti-pension politicians have revived their effort to deny retirement security for public servants such as classified employees, teachers, police officers and firemen by filling a statewide ballot initiative that would eliminate secure pensions for all new employees without guaranteeing any other type of retirement benefit in return.

2015 Classified Employees of the Year
State Superintendent of Public Instruction Tom Torlakson announced the recipients of California’s 2015 Classified Employees of the Year award. Five of the six recipients are CSEA members: Raul Torres, Alfredo Perez, Janelle Cranch, Phoebe Minick and Gricelda Garcia De Cardenas. Congratulations!

CSEA member wins Community College Classified Employees of the Year award
Donni Jean Prince, a veterans resource specialist and member of CSEA’s Desert Community College District Chapter 407 was named one of California’s Community College Classified Employees of the Year. The award honors community college classified employees who demonstrate the highest level of commitment to professionalism and community colleges.
