Fact of the Day - Workers Making A Difference:
In the tiny city of SeaTac, Washington voters approved of the proposed Proposition 1, which raised the mimimun wage to $15 an hour (which is considered 'a living wage') for travel-related industries in the airport and in the city.
Passage of the ordinance is a strike against inequality between the very wealthy and those 32% of the population that live in poverty in the city of SeaTac.
Despite vehement opposition by large and powerful business groups, voters in the city managed a successful campaign that defeated the efforts of local companies and corporations to keep the workers at the lowest minimum wages possible. Alaska Airlines and the Washington Restuarant Association sued the workers from having a voice. But Proposition 1 went to the people, and the people voted "Yes"!! Four-hundred (400) new jobs will be created in the city, and businesses will see a more productive and stable workforce.
Though powerful forces were against these workers to keep the them down economically, the workers united, got involved and waged a campaign to help themselves, as well as achieved future economic benefits for everyone!! They (the workers) made a difference!!
