Election
November Election
For the first time in many years, an uptick in the state economy and sound planning by our elected officials have resulted in fully funded public education and an ability to look toward the future. This Nov. 4, CSEA is supporting a number of candidates who are longtime friends to classified school employees and have the ability to keep things moving in the right direction.
Election
Re-Elect Tom Torlakson
On Election Day, voters will make an important choice for the future of California’s students. They can continue reinvesting and improving our public schools with former educator and current State Superintendent of Public Instruction Tom Torlakson, or they can roll the dice with his opponent, a former Wall Street investment banker who wants to increase high-stakes testing and expand corporate charter schools.

Veterans Day: Honor American Heroes Nov. 11, 2014
Veterans Day is a time when Americans honor those who have served in the U.S. Military—a time to express gratitude to those who have made great sacrifices to preserve our freedom.

Many military veterans have gone on to serve California’s public schools as classified school employees. There are a variety of reasons why CSEA members who are veterans served in the military. Some were drafted, some followed long family traditions and others felt a duty to defend their country.
Flu Safety
Protect yourself and your students from the flu
Infectious disease has taken center stage in the media lately, with fears of the Ebola Virus dominating news broadcasts. However, according to the Centers for Disease Control (CDC), unless you’ve been to West Africa recently, you’re exponentially more likely to catch the seasonal flu.

Assistance Fund
Disaster relief available to members
CSEA’s Assistance Fund helps members recover from disasters and financial hardship. In response to the devastation caused by recent wildfires in Northern California, Association President Michael Bilbrey made disaster assistance funds available to affected CSEA members. Find out how you can help.

Not Just Teachers: Supporting Students’ Success
Association President Michael Bilbrey for the U.S. Dept of Education Blog:
As summer ends and the school year begins, we often think about teachers and students heading back to school. While teachers prepare lessons and students learn new concepts we can’t forget the service employees who provide support that enable the schools to run efficiently.

Classified Employees
Classified employees are the backbone of education
In the modern age, school districts could not function without classified school employees. These essential staff members perform a wide range of vital services for students, parents, teachers and administrators. This extraordinary workforce keeps our campuses safe, clean and organized. Most importantly, they strive to improve the lives of our students every day.
