CSEA members automatically covered
Your union membership entitles you to enroll in no-cost coverage for accidental death (AD) insurance. Enroll on the special insurance site to take advantage of up to $20,000* worth of no-cost accidental death coverage, provided by Union Plus for one full year. No medical exam. No hassle.
Or opt for even greater protection of up to $200,000* in Accidental Death and Dismemberment coverage at affordable group rates - just for union members and their families - because in case of accidental death, your family may need the financial protection.
*All coverage is reduced by 50% at age of 70 and older. This reduction also applies even if you have attained the age of 70 when you first obtain coverage.
Voluntary plans
CSEA also offers its members excellent voluntary plans through Thomas E. Mestmaker Insurance & Associates, Inc (TEMA). The Group Life Plan offers up to $75,000.00 guaranteed issue member coverage and $10,000.00 guaranteed issue spouse coverage when applying for coverage within 90 days of becoming a CSEA member. Amounts up to $300,000.00 for members ($26,000.00 for spouse) are available with medical underwriting approval. Coverage is also available for your children. Download brochure (PDF 435KB).
The In-Hospital Protection plan pays benefits directly to you or your dependents, according to plan provisions, in the event of hospitalization. These benefits are paid in addition to other medical benefits you may have. The Personal Accident Plan provides 24-hour protection against accidental death or dismemberment anywhere in the world, on or off the job. Disability income protection
American Fidelity Assurance Company proudly offers Disability Income Insurance protection to CSEA members. Disability Insurance helps “protect your paycheck”. If you were ever unable to work due to a covered accident or illness, a Disability Insurance plan would pay a portion of your income to help you and your family afford daily living expenses. Healthcare Reform Information
American Fidelity Assurance Company has created a new website, www.hcreducation.com, to help employers understand the new requirements, established by Comprehensive Health Care Reform legislation enacted in 2010. American Fidelity has also provided CSEA with a Healthcare Reform Checklist, which can be downloaded for reference. It includes a timeline of effective dates for the changes scheduled to be implemented between 2010 and 2018.
Free Medicine Foundation
If you do not have insurance or a government program that pays for your outpatient prescription medicines. Or, if the high cost of your Medicine causes you a financial hardship, you may qualify to enroll in a privately sponsored program which provides your MEDICINE for FREE!
Free Medicine Foundation's staff and volunteers facilitate access to programs that have been available for the last 50 years helping people to save or eliminate their prescription medicine costs. And it's not just poor people who qualify for assistance. With each medication, the income criteria varies from below the poverty level up to $80,000 for a family of four.
The Free Medicine Foundation has helped countless families across the nation completely eliminate or substantially reduce their prescription drug bills. These programs can provide an ongoing lifetime supply of free medication. For a small one-time processing fee of $10 for each prescription drug requested, Free Medicine Foundation will help coordinate free drug distribution to eligible applicants. Leading drug sponsors have pledged, "No patient in need of medicines will do without them."
Upon approval, brand-name free medicines arrive in two to three weeks, sent directly to the patient's home, or a coupon is given to take to a local pharmacy or through the doctor's office, typically in a 90-day supply. These programs can provide an ongoing lifetime supply of free medication. You may want to ask your doctor for samples to help tide you over until you find out if you are approved for free medicine. Each sponsor determines how much and where medicine is dispensed. You will need a list of all your medicine. Apply for as many medications as you need, there is no limit. Vision Services Plan (VSP) is the largest provider of vision services in the California School system. This Web site includes information for plan members, including:

Members interested in purchasing a vision service plan should contact the administrator for these plans, the Dental Service Center at 800 877-7195, policy #12293465 to request an enrollment kit that will contain plan details and rates. There is also a 20% discount program (not an insurance plan) offered to members who do not qualify for district-paid coverage. Call Member Benefits at 866 487-2732 for a discount coupon. This benefit applies to retirees as well. You cannot combine the voluntary insurance plan or your district coverage with the discount program.
Dental coverage
