Michael Bilbrey, CalPERS Board of Administration

CSEA First Vice President Michael Bilbrey also serves as an at-large representative on the California Public Employees’ Retirement System (CalPERS) Board of Administration. He was elected to the position in 2011.

"I will be accessible and listen to members," said Bilbrey, who wants to increase transparency and input from CalPERS members. "I want to preserve and improve healthcare, and make sure California keeps its promise to safeguard the retirement security for our school bus drivers, police officers and others who provide valuable services to the public."

Bilbrey has served as a statewide labor leader for more than 18 years, including as chair of CSEA's investment committee, managing a multi-million-dollar investment portfolio. He is also trained in pension oversight and investment, and holds an MBA degree.

Members of the CalPERS Board of Administration are responsible for the management and control of CalPERS, including the exclusive control of the administration and investment of the Public Employees’ Retirement Fund. The board meets every month, usually in Sacramento. In addition to the monthly board meetings, board members may also serve on a permanent and/or ad hoc committees, which review and report on specific programs, projects, or issues and make recommendations to the Board.
