Danny Hawkins, Community College Board of Governors

CSEA member Danny Hawkins serves as the classified employee representative on the California Community Colleges Board of Governors. He was appointed to the position in 2011 by Gov. Jerry Brown and reappointed in 2012.

"I am honored to be representing classified employees on the Board of Governors," said Hawkins, a senior systems administrator for the San Jose/Evergreen Community College District. "I'm hoping I will be able to inform or educate the board that classified employees are an equal part of the community college system."

Hawkins has been a member of CSEA's San Jose/Evergreen Colleges Chapter 363 for nearly 15 years and serves as a job steward and member of his chapter's negotiating team. He has also served as chair of CSEA's Community College Committee.

As part of the 17-member board, Hawkins helps develop and implement policy for California's 110 community colleges. Hawkins believes that it is critical to keep classified employees involved in the decision-making process, regardless of the issue.

"I'm of the opinion that everything in the community college system is a classified issue," he said.

Hawkins has attended community college as a student, taught classes as an adjunct instructor and works currently as a classified employee.
